99 E300D injector torque spec?
Anyone have a manual that can give me the factory torque spec for the injectors on a 99 e300D?
I had the injectors cleaned and have them reinstalled with new heat shields but I need the torque spec to finish them off. thanks. |

I am pretty sure it is 40 NM - I just did mine a couple of weeks ago.

That's kind of interesting...my memory was that WIS only showed 40 NM and no additional tightening. I'll have to see if I can find it. I wonder if mine is an older (or newer) procedure because I know it didn't have anything about additional tightening.

My WIS is on the fritz (literally - it started up in German the other day and won't load in English now) but I did look in my "Pocket Guide" and it also says 40NM for the injectors and 23 NM for the hard line nuts.
I'd be very reluctant to turn those injectors another 1/4 turn after 40 NM since they really seemed to snug up fast and you are tightening against the pre-chambers set into aluminum. FWIW the 40NM seemed to work fine in mine - I've driven it about 500 miles since the injector replacement and there's no leaks evident. I suppose Roy could have a more up to date spec or something issued special for the turbo engine rather than the generic spec for all 606s but when it comes to torque in those heads I would rather err on the side of caution I guess.

can you post a pdf of the document FSM procedure# AR07.03-P-3830H so I can see the date on it to see if it is newer or older than mine?
I just got this pdf printed off alldata...it shows a dash in the stage 2 column for all of the engines...I think this is what my WIS showed too so I am curious to see what you have seen or am I reading this table wrong or it is incomplete?

Marty - The way I would read that is 40NM only. Maybe it pertains to the .910 although if it does there ought to be a footnote, use of (), or some other reference.

This is an old thread, but in searching for the torque spec for the injectors on my car, I haven't found anything definitive. I'm reluctant to disagree with Roy, but the 45 degrees additional tightening thing could not be right. I should qualify that by saying that I'm assuming for now that the torque spec would be the same for both the turbo and non-turbo engines, since I don't have any other information. I just tried this on my car (OM606.910). I had first tightened all six injectors to 40 nm. Then I dialed the setting on my wrench way up, without even looking at where I had stopped, since the second stage tightening wasn't specified as a torque value. I proceeded to tighten the first injector about another 20 degrees, at which point the wrench clicked and I stopped. I checked the wrench setting - it was 83 ft-lbs (113 nm)! I can't imagine what it would take to get to a full 45 degrees, but I'm sure not going to try it. I just hope I haven't done any damage already. I'm going to retighten the injector to 40 nm, though I admit that doesn't seem very tight.

Do we know the torque spec for the injector halves? 603 injector halves torque spec is the same as injector into the pre-chamber.
Top half to bottom half after doing the shims. Edit: FSM states 70-80NM for injector halves, 40NM for injector into pre-chamber (head).
