What relay is it?
I am rebuilding a wiring harness. On my 87 300D turbo there are two relays behind the right side of the instrument cluster. The relay with the melted harness is on the left. What relay is that? It has an 8 pin connector on it.

Correct. The left relay is called (by Mercedes) "N2/4 Warning Module" and buzzes for things like
(a) seat belt undone w/ignition on (b) lights on w/dooropen (c) key in ignition w/door open The front dome lamp is triggered through this module; if your dome lamp doesn't go on when the driver's door is opened, the module may have failed. Such a problem occurred with my '87. The "relay" on the right is "N40," the Instrument Illumination Control Unit. It handles the current from all of the lights in the console switches, etc., so you can dim them. Otherwise, the total current would burn out the dimmer rheostat in the instrument cluster. Jeremy

Ok thanks.
I was leaning towards N2/4 I have N40 as Audio Power Amp... I knew that didn't sound right. Ok well with any luck I will get the 3 sections of melted harness repaired this weekend. People who have no idea what they are doing should not install stereos and amps!! |
