I looked at tha pics in the FSM and there is no place to put one on the Fuel Supply Pump. Only an inlet and an inlet and an outlet.

In the past I have seen remotely mounted Hand Primers that you can mount like on the Fender Well and run hose to them. However, they used to be over $60 each. Stanadyne was one of the companies who made them.
They sell Hand Primer bulbs that you squeeze but the do not hold up; might last a year or so.
If you have any Marine Supply stores you might ask them for a source of the frmotly mounted Hand Primers.

I put a Racor fuel filter / water separator with a primer pump on my 616. Works beautifully. If you can find a place to mount it, this ought to be a great solution for the 603 missing primer pump problem.

Thats an idea but what about a lift pump from an older engine, are they that much different than the one that is on it? I would assume that the injection pumps would be very much the same on the older models.

The older model IPs like my 84 are a different model of IP. For example there are no O-rings in the Delivery Valve holders on my IP.

True, the injection pumps are not the same, but the lift pumps are the question here

Only someone who has tried it would know for sure.

Im thinking that if Bosch did not want a Fuel Supply Pump with a primer they could have used the old style Pump and simply plugged the hole were the primer goes.

Instead Bosch went to the trouble to design a whole new Fuel Supply Pump. This and the fact that the Overflow Valve works a little differently than the Older ones leds me to believe it is unlikely to be interchangeable.

Maybe some one that lives near by can lone him their spare Fuel Supply Pump so he can compart them.

I added the below a later time:
Apparently his Fuel Supply Pump has only 2 studs/nuts to hold it on.

My IP and the spare one I have from an 83 300SD have Fuel Supply Pumps with 3 Studs/Nuts holding them on. However, at the site below they show pumps using 3 or 2 studs to hold the Pump on but it looks like the 2 stud one may the spacing of the studs further apart.

Yup, I would say they are different. That's why we belong to the forum to find this stuff out. There is always someone who knows. Let me ask this. Is it straight forward to rebuild a pump as I see kits for sale or would a guy be better off to buy a new one? In saying that I guess my experience with "kits" sometimes they do not get things back 100%. What is in one of these to where that needs changing?

This is what you need. Found on 76-85 euro 300D/TD models with the M injection pump.

FP/K22M101

Classic Center should have it or Phil might be able to special order one.
