Question W124 Oil change, first yet, what to use?!

I remember @ the C. FL GTG Pierre mentioned something.... but then again, he mentioned a lot....

I'm about to do a change tomorrow, I use Rot T in my 240D, but he mentioned a Mobil product

anyone know the exact name?
I think peachparts is throwing google off, cuz I can't seem to google anything for the life of me

You don't need google to find oil threads on this forum. There are numerous oil threads and as many opinions as grains of sand.

Oh and new oil not just oil as FI said.

if you are going to get mobil delvac, look to advance auto parts, they have quarts of mobil1 TD & T oil 5w40 for 4.55 at my store. that's cheaper than you will likely find delvac for... and it's the same oil in a different package.

well, I was told delvac will quiet valves, not that my E300 isn't already quieter, and smoother, and faster than my 240D, but I figured, I'll still improve anywhere I can. what to and not to use on my 240 was always "is it for diesels?! now where is the cheap one..."

but beings I have the $$$ in the 124, I'm willing to atleast spend some time researching. and I'm open to opinions.

once again, the help of everyone is greatly appreciated, domain name aside...

THANKS!

Whatever oil you buy, make sure it's diesel rated. We have way too many people posting to this forum about finding a good deal on some oil that turns out to be not diesel rated. And keep in mind that synthetic oils will find any existing leaks in your vehicle. My mechanic says it's because synthetics have smaller molecules than dino oil. YMMV.

I ALWAYS make sure its for diesels.

heck, I'm so used to it, I pulled into a Flying J (on the big rig side) with my subaru, got out, and had to remember I was driving a gasser again

Sometimes synthetic leaks more than dino oil but every time that it happened on any of my vehicles, it ended up leaking LESS after a few thousand miles. I use Rotella synthetic, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck or Mobil Delvac 1, whichever is cheapest at the time. All are 5W-40.

Arrow hmmmmmm

I was just @ a couple parts stores.

the mobil delvac 1 was cheapest, and $3 mail in and was a 15W40

it seems as if that would be the logical thing to do?!

The Delvac 15w-40 is conventional (nonsynthetic) diesel oil. Unfortunately, the Delvac 1 5w-40 syn is nearly impossible to find. Look for Mobil 1 Truck & SUV, but make sure it's 5w-40. This month, Wal-Mart dropped it and the Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic, which you can find elsewhere for $22 a gallon.

I use 5w-40 syn in my W124, at 7,500-mile oil change intervals.

Rotella blue jug synthetic at wal-mart a few days ago for $11.00 hard to beat that for 5w40! Rotella white jug 15w40 conventional for $10.50. Dont know how long those prices will last so grab it while you can. Don

Mobil Delvac is dino diesel oil.

Mobil Delvac 1 is syn diesel oil.

Mobil Turbo Diesel and Truck is syn diesel oil, reputedly the same as Delvac 1 in a different package.

Advance Auto here sells the TD&T for $6.99, a dollar more than Autozone.
