I think we can all claim a ticket or two in our past from speeding but true excessive speed is for fools who dodge a bullit know and then, but when your driving the bullit its hard to justify the risk to others.Take it to the track, better clocking and surface anyway.

does 50 count?

I just bought an 87 300d donor car for my rodbender replacement. It only has 1st & 2nd gear. We did a "engine soundness check" going about 50 in 2nd gear at 4500 rpm or so. It did real well! I would love to try one with 4 gears!

I agree with the others; wrong car, wrong place. Nothing wrong with driving fast; bring a properly prepared Porsche to a track and attend a driving school.

you know...people should not drive faster than they can think...

and there are sharp-wits and dim-wits on the road...

and a difference between what the law is and what is right...

I just cleaned out my IM and deleted the EGR on mine and can't wait to go out later today and peg the throttle! Fastest I've had mine to date is around 95mph. This car loves to go fast.

What about 0-60 times?

I saw an old review on YouTube that got 10.8 brand new.

I am nowhere near that fast.

It's more like double that for mine.

I had my 87 300 D north of 100 once. It pulls to 100 very quickly.
The 87 300TD I had to 95 briefly, again gets there real quick.

The prior owner of my 300D said that passing through Montana he had it at 125 mph for most of an hour! Never passed a sole.

The roads around Milwaukee just have too much traffic for anything over a brief stint over 85.

* 122 mph * and it had room for more but I didn't push it.
In Europe, you can afford these speeds only on the German Autobahn.

Car was at 290k km. at that time. Now is 315k.

I had my 87 up to 115 last night. Took about a 2 mile stretch to get up there and was still accelerating a bit at that speed. Judging by the rpm I was running at that speed, I would probably top out around 125-130 or so because I would be pretty close to the high idle speed.

It'll do it, BTDT.

The mechanical governor is a pain though, much like a 3208 it starts to take power away long before the high-idle setpoint.

In my 1995 E300D It steadily climbed to 124 mph on a vacant road in Arizona. Felt solid, drove straight and would have gone faster and we wanted to enjoy the scenery to without blurring it. I really didn't believe it would go this speed however the diesel was enjoying it too!

Just bought a 93 300D 2.5

1st German auto besides a 67 beetle. What I immediatly noticed about this thread is a difference in attitude between BMW owners and Mercedes. In 04 I seriously looked into a new BMW 330 w/ perf pack. Would have cost about 40k. Was just too much to blow on a car. But I did notice alot of "who did you smoke in your BMW today" posts in the forums. This is a stark contrast to the replys to this post. I knew bimmers were considered performance cars, just did not realise Benz's were so much more luxury college prof cars.

Enough on that, back to speed. I have not done anything exciting in my 300D as I just purchased it. I have a 71 Firebird for tire smoking fun. Fastest though was in a 90 Firebird Formula 350, we had been out drinking, not drunk but just having a good time and was time to go home almost 2am. Buddy says his friends newer V6 firebird is faster than mine. When we hit 140 over the I 5 bridge in Seattle my buddy decided my 90 was faster. too funny. I will say you do have to pay attention when going double the speed limit, cars in front of you come up alot faster than they do at 60, come up about twice as fast.....lol.

Anyway hello to the forum new from the new Benz owner.
