Little rock chip has a big brother...
...named huge windshield crack.
I got a tiny rock chip on the bottom of my windshield last Thursday. Scared the crap out of my when it hit, but I was (then) relieved to find it to be just a little speck. A few days later, and it's about 18 inches long. Every day when I get in to drive to work, I smudge my finger on the inside of the glass, just so I can track how far it moves in a day. Brutal, and annoying. Insurance deductible is $100 for glass, so now I need to find a reputable place to replace it, and waive my deductible. Ugh.

You need to use only a genuine Mercedes windshield seal. That will set you back just under $200 bucks alone, but please, trust me and so many others, the other seals are made quite differently and not only make installation difficult, but it makes it near impossible to get it done RIGHT!
It is worth it to get the correct seal because the leaks from the windshield and seal can ruin these cars....

different states have different laws/regulations regarding coverage and how it is handled. Check first......

You think a small rock that chips/cracks the window is scary......when I was driving home from the junk yard on a two lane 55mph road 1.5 years ago, a big dirt/dump truck (twin trailer type) comes flying past, and all the sudden, WHAM....a rock the size of a soft ball hits my windshield right in front of me, if it had come through it'd have smashed my face. In a split second I had a basketball sized impact on my window, it actually collapsed the glass inward a bit, and I could hardly see out of the window. Thankfully I had just added comprehensive to my insurance only 3 months prior....so my $300 glass replacement was $100. It cracked a week after they put it in too....so I got a second one for free....and its been fine since.
Big rocks are scary when they hit the window at 80+ mph!

Not being able to see anything (there was still some glass hanging on, right in my line of sight), I just swerved hard to the left, trying desperately to get to the shoulder. I barely missed the car to my left, and brought the entire mess to a stop right next to the median. I thought my heart stopped for a second - it was insane. I needed to sit there an catch my breath for a good 10 minutes or so....before calling my wife to pick me up. I sold that Saturn a week later, and picked up my Benz....

Trying to figure out which windshield seal is OEM...
Called my parts supplier today...he cannot tell if the windshield seal that he can get is, indeed, OEM. The only one he can get is made by Meteor (sp?), and it's $85. Called the stealership and they can special order one, and it's $130. He had "no idea" who made the part. The seal listed here on Fastlane is made by APA, and is $75. Can anyone here verify which is the OEM seal, if any of these? I don't want any leaks! Thanks.
