Glow Plugs: Beru or Bosch?

When replacing the glow plugs, should I use Beru or Bosch? Or are they of comparable enough quality that it doesn't matter?

Both are very good. I have used both in my cars and have had no problems. As long as its Bosch or Beru you can't go wrong IMHO.

Either or both are good GPs, just stay away from the Autolites.

Could put in a few of each and see which ones burn out first!

I pulled Beru out of daily driver cars that had no record (within last 12 years) of ever having had them changed. Surprised they worked fine. Pulled another set from another of my cars, Beru again. These were known to be recent, all tested fine. I put Bosch in as replacements on my daily driver (because I had bought them suspecting some bads...). So now I've got Bosch's in and 2 sets of spare Beru's.

I did notice that Beru came out easily, with some carbon on them. The brand new Bosch's were snug pushing them through the glow holes.

Beru have rounded tip. Bosch have more of an arrow or bullet shaped tip.

No troubles starting on these new Bosch.

My brother's 300D had the ORIGINAL glow plugs in it when we acquired it a few years ago. They were Beru with a Star on them. A few of them still glowed! (sorta) The relay was bad also. We got the car cheap cheap because the guy thought the motor was dying since it was hard to start. Turns out its an awesome motor. No blowby, starts instantly even at 0F.... All for the price of a new relay/glow plugs.

Bosch GPs cost almost 1/2 as much depending on your year and model if made in France or Germany. Have not read much concerning the Indian made Bosch Plugs.

While it appears they last longer the Berus cost more and there are not as many sellers to pick from making it harder go get a bargin price on them.

So for good quality at a good price the Bosch GPs fit my needs.

To get the max life out of any Glow Plug you should clean/ream out the Carbon from the Glow Plug Holes when you put in the new ones.
I put a Never-seeze type compound on the threads of mine so the come out easier later; on the Engines with Aluminum heads it imperative to do so.

It may have been a fluke but I had problems with Bosch (India) glow plugs.
Bought Beru (Ireland) from Fastlane.
No problems !

Mine is all original and starts immediately. If I ever have to replace any of it, I'll post what it is - must be the best! For now, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

What type of problems did they cause?

I've had a set of the Bosch (Made in France) plugs in my SD for almost 3 years now with 0 issues, none have failed yet. And that's even with the afterglow relay. (Glows 3 mins every time I start the car) Are they still made in France? If they are ever made in India only I will be switching to Beru....

In fact, all 4 of the diesels in my sig are equipped with fairly recent (none more than 2-3 years old) Bosch plugs.....and none have failed yet.
