If the tranny fill is the same as for a manual transmission, that'd be very nice. But I wonder if there's more to it than just filling it til it pours out of the fill hole.

The W212 E should have the same V6 Bluetec engine used in the current ML and GL Bluetecs that DO use urea injection.

There is. If it lacks the dip stick trans "tube", new fluid is pump up through a valve on the bottom of the pan; that valve also acts as the drain.

Sounds simple enough to me. Sure reading a lot of complaints from people who don't even own one. LOL!

Me? I'm going to wait and perhaps buy the next generation W212, pre-owned, or the generation after that. Don't want or need to rush things with my low-mileage '99 E300TD, I bought new.

I want to compare what you paid, for a used/30K miles one, versus what I can buy a brand spanking new loaded 2008 Bluetech for, which is $42K asking, from a dealer near me. I can probably do better - because that was 2 months ago. He had several of them.
Where's the dealer?

Mercedes-Benz of Boerne, Texas....just north of San Antonio.....they are sold out of all new Bluetechs. None were listed Saturday on their website, at any rate. The opportunity curve to buy one brand new at a deep discount may have passed. I'm not interested at this time anyway.

There were many '08 leftovers which dealers were closing out at substantial discounts. $40K was about the lowest price I could get for a moderately well appointed one. The big bargain I missed was when MBUSA cleared out a bunch of corporate owned cars a few months back. I was offered my choice of a couple of '07s with very low miles (under 5K) for around $32K but turned it down...I should have jumped on one then but am still looking for an '05 or '06 rather than the later model because I don't like the 7 speed tranny. I have the 7 speed in our C300 and find it annoying the way it shifts so much and is not as smooth as the 5 speed overall so I would prefer the pre-722.9 model.

I guess the 7-speed makes more sense on the diesel with its narrow power band, but what you said is interesting. I've test driven both the C300 and E320 Bluetec and didn't notice any unsmooth shifting. I did actually notice it on the CDI with its 5-speed where the transmission seemed to hesitate and flare on 2 different occasions. Granted I didn't drive any of these cars long enough to properly evaluate all the pluses and minuses. I like the concept of 5 gears more than 7 gears which I think is just too many, but in my short experience the 7-speed didn't have any issues while the 5-speed did.

Were I in the market for one, I wouldn't want one with that high of miles on it, for that price. $37K is too much for that car. Geographically, I wouldn't buy a car that was from, or spent any time way up north in salt country anyway.

In the sedan it is the desgination for the V6 as opposed to the I6. In the other models (G, M and R) they did use the urea injection system, just not in the sedans. Both bluetecs use more emmisions controls systems but the urea injection is something they chose to add to the G, M and R classes first.

I agree with you their, I have no love for the 722.9. If the car had a 4 cylinder it would be nice. I drove a CLK550 with the damn thing for quite awhile and it pissed me off. I found myself using the buttons on the wheel to shift the thing on the post road so it wouldn't run through all 7 gears between every light. You simply do not need 7 gears with a 400hp V8.

I like the W211 a lot, I might get one for my next MB, or an R129.

Flying into Reno to pick up my 2007 320 CDI

My wife and I will be flying into Reno on Thursday 23 July at 2PM to pick up my newer M/B.
Any thoughts on a good place to spend the night(hotel/motel) and get a good meal and maybe a bit of gambling.
Only time I was in Reno was to race model boats at a national race way back when Nitro was $20/gallon and not $100/ gallon now.
We will take a nice trip to Washington and back to San Diego for a 2 week vacation.
Our son is going to watch the house and feed the doberman unless she grubs her own fresh meat, which she has done in the past. At 120 pounds she can take a 200 pounder down real fast.

If you like fast food when you come to Washington either stop at burger master, or Dicks Drive in.
