removing rear subframe
I am going to swap the entire rear subframe for the 300sd. that I have.
What I see is, Remove drive shaft, shock, Z link, Brake lines, E-brake, then Diff mount, and finally the rubber bushings. Do I need to use a spring compressor, or can I just lift the body far enough to decompress them. Anything I missed? thanks Doug

Support the body at the jack points..........as high as possible.
Put a jack under the diff and raise it to compress the springs slightly. Remove the shocks, the brake lines and the swaybar links. Remove the driveshaft Remove the diff mount. Slowly lower the diff to the point where the springs are fully decompressed............and remove the springs. Raise the diff to the original height. Support the subframe close to the two front mounts (one support on either side). Remove the two bolts at the subframe bushings. Lower the subframe from the three support points. Remove both axles from the hubs when the subframe is down. Slide the subframe (with attached diff and axles) out the back of the vehicle. |

how long would this take the first time.
I plan on starting it in late august. I will replace the 2 large rubber bushings, anything else that I should do while I have it between cars?

You tell me how many obstacles that will slow you down on the first attempt and I'll tell you how long it will take...........
If everything goes exceptionally well (and it never does), you can have the subframe out from one vehicle in about four hours. This can easily be tripled if problems develop. |

Thanks,
Just looking for an estimate. If it started as an all day job if things go well then I would plan for that, 4hrs, sounds like I plan for a day. thanks again.

There are a bunch of little obstacles with that job that will greatly extend the time...........so, if you do get stuck............post again and we'll figure it out.
