Mounting a 617 on an engine stand

Pretty simple question, shows my green-ness, but I don't want to screw this up. I'm guessing you run some bolts through some of the bell housing holes and bolt those to the engine stand.

My concern is that the part of the housing where the starter mounts doesn't look strong enough to support the gynormous 5 cylinder diesel with that sort of leverage applied.

Am I over-thinking this one?

But what do you do on a big engine?

Good advice - the starter holes are further down.

I took the intermediate plate off and ran the bolts into the solid block.

I am sure you can do it otherwise, however.

...in fact, I recommend that you do not remove the intermediate plate if at all possible.

If you use like 4 bolts than that is only like 125lbs per bolt....that's not that much.

I am not a big fan of using the intermediate plate on the engine stand. I've always done it without the plate bolted directly to the block. I with cmac2012 it just don't look strong enough with every engine part on installed. Unless someone else can dispute this.

Now MrGiggles has stated he has his motor on there for a month. But I believe he already had some major parts missing when he put it up there.
