My 1985 300td seems to be running fine. But I notice a buzing or chattering sound that seems to come from the area of the injector pump when I'm under the hood and rev up the engine. It doesn't make the sound at idle or at higher RPMs - but only at a certain small RPM range.

Does anyone have an idea what would cause this sound?

ive noticed on a few cars that the vac modulator on the ip was buzzing wasnt sure why it was making this noise though try un plugging the hose to the top of it to see if buzzing stops might be faulty but id imagine if it was it would effect your shifting also

If post #2 does not answer your question try listening with a Machanics Stethoscope or a piece of Broom stick with your ear on the other end on different parts of the IP until you find where the sound is coming from.
