I recall reading somewhere (History of Mercedes-Benz class at my high school?) that Mercedes found that they could sell all the wagons the factory could produce without offering a diesel version. It was simpler for them to do the wagon gasser-only but yes, unfortunate for us.
If you really want, it should be possible to retrofit a 603 or 606 engine to a 90-ish gasser wagon body. The best car for the transplant would probably be a rear-wrecked '87 diesel wagon, that way you'd get all of the SLS pump stuff. I don't know about final drive rations, etc., you'd have to do some research. Jeremy
