I am not alone.

I came to work today and was pleasantly surprised to find a Magnesium Brown (love that color) 240D manual in the parking lot today. Of course I had to park next to it. The new rentacop is the (quite proud) owner of it. It has a sweet Zebrano shifter in it.

I like the 480 color, but man does the sun do some serious damage to it. On both of the cars I've painted pieces on, the color really does jump out.

Love that Zebrano in mine. Sometimes I wish it was a richer color, but the white has lasted very well and sure hides a lot of little flaws.

You are not alone - I'm a proud owner of a Magnesium Brown (480) 1981 W123 300D. I must confess I didn't like the colour much when I bought the car but it has grown on me... it is certainly very typical of the time.
Recently I came across a brand new Mercedes with almost the same colour (it was ever so slightly lighter) so perhaps brown is coming back in.

Does anyone know if/where I can get a leather shift boot? My vinyl one is all torn up and I'd like to replace it with something nice. From a W124 or 201?

Look on FleaBay. The PO of my car said he bought the whole wood kit together from somebody there. It's all brand new.

Yeah I hear you. the vinyl/rubber boot for the 240 is ugly. I have been looking for a leather boot for my 123.

I pulled a leather boot off a 201 at PNP, but seems like it is way small .
I was thinking we could use it for a pattern and make a leather boot.

I haven`t come across a 124 with a shift boot yet. not sure if the hole is the same size as a 123.

Maganese Brown is the best color on a w123. Of course I am biased because I own one... As stated above, very nice when not beat up by the sun as shown by these examples. I wish mine was this nice....

I have some old magazine scans of a maganese brown 240D. I really like the color. Kinda brings me back to a time I was never alive for

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to the early 80s and see what it was like. Especially when my car was brand new shipped out on June 5th 1985. It's sad knowing I will never see what one of these cars looked like back when it still had that new car smell.
