Talking Gauge Needles Repainted w/ Sally Hansen!

So this looked like a nice, cheap and easy way to repaint my gauge needles, and looks a lot like the original color, too!

The color is called "Sun Kissed" by Sally Hansen. I paid about $2.50 for it at CVS.

Not that there would be anything wrong with that.

Did you thin out the nail polish at all, or have to smooth it out to spread it? Thinnest possible coat? How long did it take to dry?

Did you notice that the weight of the polish affected the time on the clock?

I used hobby paint on mine (CREATEX Flourescent Orange). About the same color as your nail polish. No issue with the clock, but I do have an issue with the speedometer often getting stuck on the O peg.

I painted mine dark red and it looks great in day light, but at night it's kind of hard to see the needles.

I might repaint them with some UV type paint for some night glow

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I knew this forum would appreciate it.

As for the painting, I just opened the bottle an applied it! I did it in two coats...the first one was as thin as possible, then I waited for it to dry, and applied one more, thicker coating. The best part about using nail polish is that the imperfections flatten out, because it is pretty thick, and it dries VERY fast.

I let it dry for about an hour before putting it back in the car. No issues at all with any of the gauges. No problems with the clock, and the speedo doesn't get stuck!

Has anyone tried that "glow in the dark" nail polish? It comes in a variety of colors, needs no black light and it really is supposed to "glow in the dark". It comes in Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, etc...

For painting instrument needles or nails?

That stuff works great! It is beautiful. I just got done painting mine today along with putting foil around the cluster light prisms.

Walgreens has the Sally Hansen 4860 too (for those that are interested).

Aqua, your needles look more like the original orange than the Sally Hansen which look too red and dark. I just got finished with the needles on my 560 and it's not really a match to the original orange, looks good, but obviously painted. What did you use?
