Cool Ad Blue-$32/gallon!!! Any Alternatives?

Saw Ad Blue is $32/gallon. Is this true? Are there any alternatives? What is the experienced use rate for those owning a MBZ diesel which uses Ad Blue? THANKS!!!!

Compare that to the $7000 in fuel costs for 100k miles and don't worry about it.

Someone who is smart needs to figure out a way around this.

Like the EGR in the 606, that was cracked.

I assume these cars are still under warranty for the emmision system for several years. I don't think you want to mess with it.

True, I would probably make friends with someone at the dealer and try to buy a lot of it at cost.

Alternative: don't buy a car that requires AdBlue.

if you have that much urea in your pee you need to goto the emergency room because you're about to die!

put the sensor in a small bottle of fluid and remove the rest of the system.

There are sensors that monitor the exhaust gasses too, its not quite that simple of a system.

It's part of the emissions system on the new BlueTec diesels; it's a urea-based system to reduce NOX emissions (by reacting with the exhaust gases). The urea tank has to be refilled periodically (dealer service) or the car car will not operate.

Can you add it yourself and reset the system without SDS?

I'm not sure, but I think the dealer needs to reset the system. I believe this restriction was required to meet EPA requirements (so people couldn't override the system).
