Do yourself a favor. To get any kind of help on this board, you won't get very far without stating what year and model of car you are referring to. Many of us put this in our "signature" part on the user CP.

should be an 10mm. I use a 10mm hex socket.

I have a short piece I cut off with a chop saw, about 1 1/2 in long. I place it in the bolt, then use a box wrench to brake it free. a gear wrench works good once it is loose.
Make sure the bolt is clean so the hex goes in all the way.

10mm iirc. Youll want the socket and and 1/2" u joint breaker bar with 1/2" -> 3/8" adapter. Just fits right. The alternative is to drop the rear of the trans and use extensions./

I just ran out in the shop and dug through my bolt supply, and dug through my tool box.

I apologize . It is 10MM.

8mm is the motor mount bolts under the car.

Do it and spend the money on beer! You can do it, just think smarter not harder! Make sure they are cleaned out first.

Use brake cleaner to clean it out.....do NOT let it slip.

I actually removed one from a 300D NA parts car.....to install on my 1979 300SD (w116). What a pain! I'm glad the w116 had REGULAR hex headed bolts on it.

I saw your year and model. I would read in the archives about exactly how to get those starter bolts. You do require long extensions and a universal.

Up along the transmission from underneath the car is the only way commonly used on your model. You or whoever does it has to use care to not strip the hex in the bolt head. Those bolts can be very tight.

Actually requiring more force to snap loose than a breaker bar can deliver without a good extension on the handle. Three eights extensions to reach the bolt may be too flexiable. Use 1/2 inch stuff. I have no ideal why the top bolt is that tight sometimes. But it is.

Took a "Special" 48" 1/2 inch extension...

[I'd been previously warned] AND an Electric Hammer/Wrench.
'To break the Starter Bolt loose on the '84SD.(You're laying on your back looking
over your stomach at the Bolt heads.)
'Make Sure the Hex insets on the Bolt heads are fully cleaned ! (6th time?)
