Doing the screwdriver method now. You are so right, it doesn't feel too reliable that way! Also just got the replacement ignition switch, created a new thread on it here.

Sean is right, don't try to use some POS from your local auto parts dealer, with a key that doesn't match your other locks.. Also, with the new tumbler from MB, you get a new key and it all matches your other locks. If you are a MBCA member, most dealers will give you a 20% discount.

If you grind down a square shaft screw driver to fit the key slot in the ignition switch, you will not round it out. Have you tried washing the tumbler with hot soap and water? It really does work. Has anyone else tried it?

Two thoughts
1.(As you've already been told) The Factory "Tumbler"(Even thought it's not a
Tumbler but a "Leaves" container) with new key To Your VIN is the simplest. 2.The ONLY Lubricant to insert in MERCEDES Locksets is: part # 001 989 26 51 10 (Personally I'd "Steer Clear" of ANY Critical Function Apparatus replacemant of part with URO brand.)
