Great find Nate! Man, so little work, so much time you'll have to be spinning them thar wheels.

And if you act quick, there's a '84 sedan at the anaheim yard with, you guessed it, that exact paint color. Pristine fenders and hood, clearcoat too and from what I remember a pretty decent interior if you need any trim peices. Couldn't tell if you needed a grille or not from pix but that was available too in great condition minus the plastic insert(just weathered.) Worth a looksee. Most likely come out ahead after it all.

http://www.pickyourpart.com/locations/orange/#anaheim

address is 1235 s beach blvd. a couple hunderd yards south of ball ave. good thing is the other yard is literally a couple miles down the road. use to be you could get in both with paid admission at the first. Nate, give me a hollar and if my schedule allows I'll meet you there. It's been weeks and last time I went there was pretty much bust. Was during the heavy rains and that yard has no, read: NO, drainage. SHould have seen the lake, a good 100' in diameter and 5' deep at the center straight smack dab in the center of the yard. half the cars inacessable and submerged all those days.

Thumbs up BUMP !

I know I've been lax about updating but work and so on , blah blah blah...

The GOOD news is : last week I scored a brandy new Nissin radisator for $45 , then I went out and bought new oil cooler hoses and AC condensor , receiver-dryer and some other things , I'm trying to assemble enough parts to take it to the body sjhop soon as this time of year Automotive work grinds to a halt so they'll have plenty of time and interest in doing a good job .

I got lucky and found another TD with Palomino interior in Pick-A-Part , it had two of the missing read head rests , I still need a few more but I'm getting there .

Any good Mercedes oriented body shops in the L.A. / O.C. area ? .

TIA , SWMBO is getting all excited about driving this car as soon as it's painted and insured .

Thumbs up BUMP

O.K. , I've been working on too much stuff but , I did get the new radiator & AC condensor installed , added a bit of Ester oil and the last of my R-12 freon , BANG ! went a hose , replaced it and re-filled it with R134a , it was cool , not cold for a while ,now it's not cold so more investigation is needed .

I was able to score a brandy new factory fender (list price : $410.00) for $150.00 , then I rummaged through my pile of Euro bumpers and selected the best one (read filthy & over sprayed but not dented) , took it apart and spent a 1/2 day cleaning it before re - assembling it with decent rubbers , it looks pretty good .

Monday morning it goes in to a high end restoration shop , the owner is a nice guy and we talked gears for a while , , in the end he cut me quite a deal on the body work & paint .

We'll see , I still need to buy 5 new tires and two tie rods as the stupid towtruck operator who dragged it out of the ditch , hooked & bent both of them . when I ran a '55 Chevy tow truck ,I made some boo boos but I never damaged any cars .

I drove it 160 miles to - day , it's amazingly smooth & quiet ! you'd never know it was a Diesel .

The 85, 5 spd TD that I found last summer was imported to Canada from the Netherlands and owned by a doctor in BC. It was repainted, always a "red flag" but upon closer inspection NO rust was found, not even under the battery. Some trim, and the hood star was missing, the rear end bounced like crazy on the test drive, a real "pig in a polk" The car turned out to have been well maintained by the Doc and as is the case with allot of these cars, not so well by the next guy, thank god he didn't have it long. Its as simple to work on as a manual 240D, except for a few things like replacing the clutch slave. It doesn't have the third seat or the original euro lights but the 7" round "euros" light up the road just as well. I payed 3K which by the looks of the car when I got it may have been to much but it turned out to be a good score.

Thumbs up They're OUT THERE

And , easier to find than aliens or honest politicans .

You've just gotta beat the bushes a bit .

I wish I could try a 5 speed Mercedes Diesel but SWMBO can't drive a stick and won't learn now .

I'm not as happy bumping a clutch in and out , in and out , on and on in bumper to bumper traffic as i was 40 years ago either so it's a wash .

I hope to find some small bits to-day in P-A-P then to - morrow my big brother & I will go serious yard hopping , I need both tie rods and he wants some S Klasse parts too .

I wouldn't have a manual car if I lived in town either, epically Seattle or SF. The old VW bug at least had the hand brake where you could use it without requiring three feet like the MB.

Had a 1979 230T 4-speed for a time. Butterscotch with brownish red interior . What was it about the '70s that made that an ok combination??

Thumbs down _BAD_ Colors

I dunno but those awful colors made it nigh impossible to re - sell many used cars . in particular I hate poop brown , there's so many '79 W-116's left in this terrible color and they simply cannot be given away .

Tobacco Brown interiors too ~ they look dirty when new and the years have not been kind .
