What would you name these parts?
Hi There, Ive discovered the source of a rattling problem on my 85 300TD wagon due to a couple of bolts with rubber that attach the air filter housing to the bracket in the engine. Im trying to find replacements for these bolts but cant figure out what the proper name for them. Any Ideas?
Also I noticed a small o-ring missing on what looks like a drain that leaves the air filter housing (see attached pics) is this important? and what would I call this to be able to order a replacement. and the one other question is how much oil is considered to be acceptable in the air filter housing? Thanks for any help in advance Michael |

They are air filter mounts. PN is 6179880111. You might also want to pick up heat shields for them, 6170940220. All in all new parts should cost under $10 to your door. There should be an O ring there, I don't have the PN in front of me but I could look it up.
If you remove the oil filter cap with the motor running how much smoke comes out? -J

Great thanks! I found them on my "local" online order shop. they called it an air cleaner buffer. one from URO was 4.99 and another generic one was 1.99. i think Ill go Generic.
Any Ideas what size or name of the o-ring part would be? Thanks again Michael |

The blowby from the valve cover is directed into the oil seperator which sends the oil back to the oil pan and the vapor into the intake. Its a good idea to clean the filter housing up now and then - but the main thing is to replace the paper filter before it become blinded by oil and affects performance by restricting air flow to the engine. Air filter mounts
May want to double check the bracket the mounts screw into as well...it seems common that the threads strip out...meaning you'll want the bracket also (about 18.00)

You're going to have "some" oil in the housing. Make sure the top rubber bushing is in good shape too, part #617 098 02 65. Also the breather hose.

the part number you quoted doesnt come up in a catalogue search through my supplier. are you talking about the rubber part that fits into the air filter lid? I did notice a sizable crack on the part that curves out from the engine head and lads into the pipe that leads into the air filter housing. Is this what your talking bout? Im trying to get used to the specific names for these parts. It seems they differ slightly from supplier to supplier but the general jist is the same.

Yeah, the spaces make it easier to read, but I would think to save space on the order form, they delete 'em.

I tried and I was quoted 12$ for shipping on a 15$ order. I bought mine from my local MB indie shop.
Did I miss something? (ie: shipping cost?)
