anyone ever switch to a GM alternator in place of MB one

I am very interested in replacing my 300SD alternator with a GM alternator for more amps. That way I go from M-B 13.8volts and 55 amps to a GM's 14volts and 100+amps so I can run some extras.

I know i have heard about it being done but need more information...

GM one wire?
OR
GM wire connector style?

thanks in advance
