Make them an offer of ten cents on the dollar. That is the normal price of a salvage car.

she does not want an E... she says it's too big... she WANTS a 606 powered 95 in pristine shape with all the extras like her wrecked one was.
gotta be leather.
gotta be heated seats.
gotta be low miles
gotta be pristine inside and out.
her insurance co is making her pay for the luxury of getting her pristine wreck back...

First of all a 95 with low miles is worth more than that KBB. When I looked up mine with 212k on it, the value was around $4500 so she is definitely getting lowballed. $2500 for the car is absurd.

Rules probably vary state to state.
Do you have an option of insisting they repair rather than total?
Do you have an option of third party arbitration of the settlement?

I've parked them side-by-side and the 210 is only a couple inches bigger than the 124. The 124 just looks smaller from the front.

If it was worth $3900 and is currently worth $2500 (according to the insurance company), then why did they total it?

Tell 'em to fix it then.

A '95 E300D = uncommon, hard to find.
Southern car / non rust belt, VERY difficult to find.
Leather in a '95 E300D, rare. Combined with the above I would guess that less than 20 sell per year.
Heated, add to above, probably 5/year
Pristine, low miles, and a decent color? If one is for sale combined with the above, not only is it rare as hen's teeth, as in you won't find one any easier than winning the lottery, but it is probably more of a $6500 car.

Do some research, find some comps, they won't have the options, point that out and use the comps to drive the car's value.

And who the hell will pay them $2500 for the wreck? Not any junkyard I've seen, it's going to be scrapped for under $350.

From my understanding, and I do not know all the details, but . . . let me step out on a limb . . .

She has the title, it is her car, she does not have to buy anything "back"!

They should either replace car with the "SAME" (Trade), or fix it to the "SAME" previous condition!

They (Ins co) work for her, she pays thier salaries . . .

P.S. I don't like Ins co's!

On Ebay there has been several 95's that sold for around $5700 with a little over 200k on them. I thought that price was kind of silly but that is ebay. Her insurance company is offering her KBB value. The extra options on a 15 year old car might add a couple hundred to the value but from the sounds of it, she is not going to get what what she feels the car is worth. My opinion is offer the insurance company $4000 plus you get to keep the car.

Hi
Here in Texas, the usual buyback is 25% of what the ins. Co is paying for the totaled car.

Sometimes, what should be - just isn't!

Well if the insurance adjuster says the car is worth 2500.00 as scrap basically.. It has to be worth a lot more in good condition than just 3900.00.

Not that one would use there own devious ways against them. I would want their quote of salvage worth on paper. Also it might not hurt to find out what mercedes dealers have been getting for simular models in good condition either. They might cooperate with sales records as long as they feel it will not involve them going to court sometime to verify them.

I just love these adjusters and insurance companies. They try to get you coming and going. Yes because of their past actions most car dealers will not help you. Some will though.
