primer pump handle question

When I changed my fuel filters this last weekend I noticed that I was pumping more fuel out of the primer pump than into the IP. I also believe that this is the source of the air that keeps working its way into the fuel system and making the car run like crap at idle. I bought the primer pump handle at the dealer for $15 and have a couple of questions. I did do a search and didn't come up with the answers I am looking for.

When I remove the old handle, do I need to remove the entire hand-pump assembly? Do I need to use a sealant on the threads of the new hand pump? Are there any parts off the old hand pump that I must reuse with the new one? Any advice that you think might be helpful would be appreciated.

I also want to change the rubber lines that connect to the primer pump. The dealer did not have them and I was wondering if anyone knew what the diameter was off the top of their head? Also, is it easy to find the clear plastic fuel line that is found in a couple of spots on the engine?

I was going to replace all the bulbs behind the dials for the heater controls as one bulb is out The dealer told me that he couldn't find a diagram of the rotary dials for my car (1980 240D); He even tried to look it up on microfiche. He gave me a couple of bulbs that he 'thought' would work. Does anyone know where you can find the bulbs that go to the interior lights of the dash and HVAC system?

My last concern is about the breather line that comes out of the valve cover. I have a slight leak at the elbow (is this a pcv valve?) of the breather hose at the top of the valve cover. I think I want to replace the whole thing as the line and joints look old. This line goes straight to the intake below the air cleaner housing.
Can I still find all the parts to replace this 'system'? I would like to keep everything original on the car and would hate to 'rig' something up that wasn't OEM.
Any advice from those who have done this job would be appreciated.

thanks,
mike

I think I can answer two of your questions:
Hopefully you purchased one of the new style hand pumps that does not require you to unscrew it before use. The new pump should include a copper washer which will create a tight seal. You will probably need a 17mm crows foot socket to torque the hand pump down.
The rubber fuel lines can be found at the FastLane parts catalog on this site.
I also had to replace some of the clear plastic lines between the IP and the fuel filter. A local truck brake shop had similar tubing, though black not clear. I had to dip the ends in boiling water before inserting the fittings. Worked great - much cheaper than buying the hose assemblies new; black looks cool, too!
I had no clue that there were lights behind the climate controls.
Good luck...
