Smokes when shifting

I just purchased a 1985 300D. So far have only driven it back to my house, and I already really like the car. Before It warmed up it would belch blue smoke when shifting gears. It doesn't weem to do this when it warmed up. Where should I start looking? This is the frirst diesel (and Mercedes)I have owned, any help would be appreaciated.
