Problems with two window motors
I have a 300TD that I was changing interior bulbs on. I had lifted up the center console to replace the bulb for the shifter. When I put the console back my drivers window and back passenger window did not work. I checked the switches, checked the wires. The other two windows still work. I still could not get them to work. I then removed the switches and put in spares that I had. Still the two windows did not work. Did I ruin the motors

Are these windows both on the same side of the car?

OP says "Drivers window and back passenger window" so I'd say not. Left front, Right rear. Perfect symptom of a fuse problem since they are fused diagonally but it's already been stated that the fuse is good :/

Thanks, that is correct, left front and right rear. Ok so is there a relay. I may need to start checking the wires for a broken wire. It is good to know that they are wired diagonally. Thanks again for your help.

After Fuses:
Burned Contacts in the Switches seems to be the most frequent cause of windows not working. (I scraped the oxidized/burned parts of the Contacts with a small knife and they now work fine.) Followed by a problem with the Window Regulator. Next broken wires where they flex at the Door. An issue with the Motor I have yet to read or hear of anyone replacing a Window Relay yet.

Its most likely a fuse if both quit out at the same time. Measure resistance across the fuse or replace it. Switches would be one or both on same side, not diagonal.

Is this a 123 or 124? Year would help here.
If a 124, seems that the switches would be unaffected by the wood R&R as they don't lift with the wood, does the rear switch light up indicating it has power?

1984 300TD
Update. I pulled the switches and cleaned them. Thanks for posting DIY link. It was very helpful and really not a bad job at all. Now for the bad news it did not make a difference. My left front and right rear windows still do not work. The other two work fine. Thanks again for all the suggestions. This what I have done so far. 1. Checked switches (working) Cleaned Switches ![]() 2. Check voltage on all four switches. Each one is getting 12V 3. Checked for broken wires. None found 4. Checked resistance at fuse 0.0Ohms (hope I did that right) I think the next step will be to remove a door panel and see if I an get the motor to run. Last edited by toffuie; 07-08-2010 at 12:06 PM. |

Get a multi meter and check the plugs at the switches. I am betting a busted ground.
