Another sunroof problem...

w123 300cd:

I took the sunroof off with the help of great directions on this forum. There was gunk on the guides and rails. I cleaned everything thoroughly and temporarily used wd40 to lubricate until i can get some mercedes goop. The issue is that the sunroof slows down and in some cases halts when the black cross bar moves over the front rails. It is definitely friction. Is this likely just a lubrication issue? It seems to me like there is too much friction for even grease to fix. The felt pads aren't completely disintegrated, but I'm wondering if they had more felt and were thicker if it wouldn't slightly raise the height of the sunroof going over the tracks, and hence put more space between the black cross bar and the slide rails.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
