There's a guy in my town who owns a 250sl. We both wave at each other

I get the "kid in a mercedes" reaction a lot being 22. I live in a college town, where a good percentage of the college students are spoiled brats so just about everyone assumes mommy or daddy bought my benz for me. It is rather annoying but I totally understand it. I am glad not to fit the stereotype one bit!

I do the lights or wave, depends on conditions. I usually get a response. I got waved at by a guy in a Wagon about a month ago when I blinked the lights at him.

There aren't even a lot of people in Utah. Last I heard I think the density was 1 person per square mile. Maybe it is more now. Certainly a lot of room to stretch.

I don't wave but if I see another W123 or W126 I will give the thumbs up. Some people notice and have smiled and given me the signal back. Some are oblivious.

I was talking to someone at work who likes my car and told me his parents had a Benz when he was growing up. It was a W123 vintage. One day I said to him that I saw a 300D parked across the street, and that I would watch for the guy and try to catch him at some point. He looked at me and said, "So you are just going to say, 'Hey you have a Benz and I have a Benz so we should be friends.'" I just smiled and said, "Well, yea, of course." I guess this was foreign to him. Go figure.

Aren't you in Bountiful or there abouts? I think we chatted on Facebook in the W126 or diesel benz group. I see tons of old benzes where I am, mostly Aves, and Sugarhouse.

I have friends that are just as short sighted.

When I tooled around in a '46 Willy CJ-2 I waved @ other Jeeps. Always got a reply.

During the '90's in the '66 Beetle I waved @ other old Beetles. Always got a reply.

In the RV I wave and 95% of the time get a reply. I am not the typical demographic in the RV though. Generally the other person has white hair. I am getting close but not there yet.

On the NightHawk I acknowledge any other motorcycle regardless of make. Could be a wave or a nod and generally get a reply.

In the 300D the other day I was driving on a rather rural road and passed another W123 going the other way. Waved and was responded to in kind. About 2 hours later I was headed back the same way and nearly the same place on the road and passed the same guy going back to where he was from. I waved..... nothing.

I had a nice experience last Friday night when going out to get some wine. I pulled up to the diesel pump and there was a early 20 something kid waiting for the diesel pump also. He went first and we struck up a conversation. He really loved the old benz, but had a for sale sign in the window. He was going out to California for an internship, and did not think the car would make it. It only had 150k on it, and if given a good going over would do fine. After we talked a while, he said he really had 2nd thoughts about selling. It was a very sound car.

I haven't had a lot of people wave but in the first month of owning it I had 12 people stop me to ask me about it. One guy even offered to buy it from me. I refused the offer, of course.

I tend to wave at all Benzes from W115-W126
I have had some nice stop light conversations with fellow 300SDL drivers!

I have had a few people approach me in parking lots to talk about my car.
Talked to this one guy and got him re-interested in 123's. That was fun.
I would wave if I saw one tho....still waiting..

Oh! I thought only bus drivers did that. (Even if they know and hate each other)

BUUUUUUUUUUT I have yet to be waved at, and I have yet to wave at anyone else. Maybe I will in the future

My neighbor asked me if I knew of any W123's being sold, his brother was looking for one. I told him to visit this site (and others).

When my wife's co workers invited us to go karting, I brought my 300D along and parked right next to what seemed like an 84-85 300D. Needless to say, after the event we headed out to our cars and the blue 300D I parked next to belonged to her co worker.

I remember one time I was driving behind my mother's 300TE and there was a late W124 on the opposite lane (94-95) who flashed his lights to "wave" at my mom in her 300TE. She did not acknowledge but I saw the driver looking at my mom's car.

Looking back at all these times we've said "hello" to fellow MB owners, I wouldn't be surprised if the one I waved to was actually on this board.
