bypass valve question
can anyone tell me if this bypass valve is the repairable (re-stretch the spring to 27mm) or the non-repairable type. I copied this listing from another thread
MB# 6010700146 http://catalog.peachparts.com/item.wws?sku=6010700146 Application list: OM601. 911, 912, 921, 940, 941 OM602. 911, 912, 930, 931, 938, 939, 940, 941, 942, 946, 947, 948, 961, 962, 990, 991, 993 OM603. 912, 913, 931, 960, 961, 962, 963, 970, 971, 972 OM616.963 OM661.911 OM662.911 |

it is not repairable.
And furthermore, I think our dear Whunter bought the last remaining serviceable relief valves from MB. almost all of those engines never had serviceable valves. |

Did anyone ever figure out whether there's a source for the spring for the early type? I know at one time someone has acquired a couple springs.
Anyone know? steve a

I have the new springs on my desk, the spring companies have negative or no response.

I am surprised that some one hasnt come up with the suggestion of just doing away with the "rare valve" and replacing it with a basic adjustable pressure relief valve. They are use in all sorts of applications & normally adjustment is just by a small locking screw. There is one on the diesel return of an old Leyland diesel we have in a road grader. If it wasnt so cold & wet outside I would go take a pic of it !!

I'm checking fuel pressure on my car later today to see if this is an issue. As a side, I assume the non-serviceable can be replaced with the semi-serviceable unit? steve a

does anyone know if the valve out of a cummins (bosch) p7100 or vp44 injection pump will work? The specs are 17-35 psi (p7100) and 10-15 psi (vp44). I found a couple adjustable ones on ebay as well for the p7100 pump. I cannot find specs on the thread size or length of the valve. Both look the same as the Merc ones. They are also readilly available and low cost.

Here's what I found in my Bosch In-line FI Pump Yellow Jacket book from '03 about the overflow valves.
While it doesn't talk about any specific pump it does suggest that restrictive pressure should fall somewhere between 30-43psi (2-3bar). ![]() steve a

It looks a bit like this but it doesnt have the flange & fasteners, everything comes out the adjustment bolt hole.

It would work on the principle of the adjustable blow off valve they use on the waste gate of the turbo. I have seen them on e-bay.

In the pic in post #17 item #1. Hunter said the new ones are like the pic. There is no screw on the end to get at the Spring.
In the manual they have the pressure of the Fuel Pressure Relief/Overflow valve as being 1.3 bar (about 18.35 psi) at 3000 rpm. Idle 0.6-0.8 bar (8.7-11.6 psi). Here is a test no one I have read has done. If you hook a Vacuum Gauge at the Lift/Fuel Supply pump inlet it supposed to pull 0.1 bar of Vacuum. If not it has you should replace the suction and delivery valve or the complete Lift Pump.

If you wanted to measure IP gallery pressure, would you tap into the line from the big filter to the IP?
