Well, I ordered the upgraded glow relay and pencil plugs for my 240D today, car wouldn't start for my stepfather last weekend, I went out there today and had no luck with it either, 50 degrees today and the most I got out of it was random sputtering. AAA is going to tow it to my house (he gets 25 miles free towing) so hopefully the car and the new plugs will be here by the time I get over the flu.

anyone still looking around for advice, this site F1101-88322 KIT for converting LOOP series GP to hotter pencil parallel system has really good prices on the upgrade plugs, with free shipping. Also this page http://dieselgiant.com/mercedesdieselloopglowplugrepair.htm has a really good tutorial on how to do it. Just make sure to upgrade to the 80 amp fuse as well. Havent tried it all yet, but just ordered my parts and thought those searching for a cheaper alternative to a premade kit like i was would like some advice.

do you still have the engine? you can pull the adapters out of it. test all the pluggs and use the ones that work then replace the ones that don't.
DieselGiant's site will sell you the adapters and it has the instructions to upgrade.
