Bearings Question
Hello Everyone,
I have noticed a slight lurch which seems to be worsening when applying the brakes for a sudden stop. Might the bearings need replacement? '85 300D 250,000 miles. Thanks. |

Jack a corner up and grab the wheel and try to "steer it" check for side-side play, and check top-bottom play. If you can move the wheel before the spindle moves in the same direction you've got bearing slop.

Wheel Bearing adjustment somewhere in the below Threads. In theory you should not be able to feel any play. Spinning the Wheel and listening with a Mechanics Stethoscope for any grinding sounds from the Bearing could also be revealing.
It also could be that the Brake Pads are worn thin causing the Caliper Pistons to extend themselves near there limit. That can also cause grabby Brakes. Also in that situation the Caliper Pistons do not as easily return; stiff old Caliper Seales make it more difficult for the Calipers to return.
