if you've changed oil on engines the benz is actually easier. just take the two nuts off the oil filter lid, and lift out the lid with it's shaft, look at the bottom of the shaft, there are two o-rings, chip them out, then go to the auto store (actually, it may be smarter to go to the store first...) bring home two 6/10mm or actually, one 6x2x10 and one 7x2x11 o-rings. and replace them. then remove the large 4" o-ring from either the lid, or the canister, where ever it is. but be sure and remove it! the new oil filter will come with a new 4" o-ring. some filters come with two copper washers too, if yours does, it goes on the drain plug. then pull the drain plug, and let it drain out into your favorite 8 quart or larger container.
fill back up with 7 quarts of diesel rated oil, in your area, I'd use 5w40 synthetic. if there is an o'rilies near you, they have mobil1 5w40 turbodiesel and truck oil on sale for 19.99 a gallon, but anywhere should have rotella 5w40 synthetic diesel oil for under 20.00
have fun!

I just want to be clear about this: are you saying 5w40 is what I should use for winter since it's almost NOV? Is the "turbodiesel and truck oil" different than just plain 'ol 5w40?
An' another question: might I be asking for trouble moving from non-synthetic to synthetic? I've read about problems with leakage & wonder if synthetic-life is worth the "up-front" issues. (hope that makes sense)
