83 240d-winter vs. summer oil-synthetic vs. non-synthetic

An' another question: might I be asking for trouble moving from non-synthetic to synthetic? I've read about problems with leakage & wonder if synthetic-life is worth the "up-front" issues. (hope that makes sense) |

nahh.
if you have leaks, the synthetic will make them cleaner, and could cause a tad more oil to leak out. but they will not cause any leaks, also the new aromatics they use can cause a weak seal to swell and stop leaking! if it gets cold in the winter, changing to a synthetic will aid starting RPM by having lower viscosity so the starter won't have to pump that thick cold oil. TD&T is just a label they put on that series of M1 oil. it's also sold under delvac1. I don't think you will find any non synthetic oil in the 5w40 range. after you put in the 7 quarts, start the car and let it idle a minute or so, look over for leaks especially at the filter lid, that 4" new o-ring goes on the lid itself around the inner lip. and it can slip off when you put the lid back in. it'll dump a lot of oil out quick if it does! shut it down, and let it sit for 10 or so minutes, and verify the oil level is above the lower notch but BELOW the upper notch. NEVER run the engine if the oil level sits above the upper notch!
