Well, from what I have researched, there are a couple of things that are not yet clear.

I know the 126 and 116 have a different input yoke, but it is a 100% bolt-on swap, so that isn't an issue. My question relates to the half shafts.

I know the inner CV's are different on the 116 and 126, so my question is how to address this. Would one simply use the 126 inner CV on the 116 shafts??? Or, is there another way to do it????

Thanks....Robert

126 and 116 yokes can be the same depending on Gas version or diesel versions.

Inner axles shafts are the same, same spline count. Each axles will fit in the other diff. I am sure you can use a w126 axle on the w116 body and vice versa.

Inner diameter (axle stub area) of the seal are the same. The outer diameter seal (part that gets pressed in to the case) maybe different and specific to that model year differential. So basically you may not be able to use the same part number seal that is on your w116 3.07 on your potential new to you 2.47. You may need to get a seal for a 1984-1985 500SEC/SEL or 1981-1985 380SE to fit properly on the case. The axles will seal properly regardless of w116 or w126 model.

Wow...thanks for that information. I am most grateful!!!!

Guess I will need new 0-60 and 60-100 videos once I make the swap to the 2.47:1 axle.I think the 722.120's take-off downshift to 1st will compliment the 2.47:1 axle...Robert

The only part of the puzzle yet to find is a 107 speedo for a 2.47:1 axle. This swap really isn't all that bad!!!!!

MB dealer. About $6 for the nut, we borrowed the socket. Otherwise you'll probably have to buy that too, or find one somewhere like northerntool.com

Yes they are , still hard to get a ticket with 240D.
I think it is the other way around . The actual drven miles are higher then the miles on the odometer show. So the actual mileage would be even better if you would not compensate for that.

If you find one with a 2.47:1, I will gladly pay for it and your time....
