Well, new filter installed and I'm getting nothing. Neither gauge is dropping and I left the unit running for 30 mins.

If anything, the blue gauge went UP in pressure.

Either I'm coimpletely inept at following the directions or the unit is malfunctioning...

Very disappointed. Wanted to pull the engine this weekend...

I think in recovering refrigerants... the idea is that you are compressing it into the recovery tank.. thus you are pulling it out of the system..
many home made units will have dry ice packed around the vessel into which the refrigerant is being put...

Check to see if the valves involved are ' intuitional' ( LOL ) that they work like one would assume in terms of opening and closing...
perhaps scan the instructions and post them...

Yes, The dry ice method does work well. It will get your refrigerant out so you can pull the motor, and figure out the recovery machine later. Your machine should show some movement of the manifold gauges as soon as you open the valves. In 30 minutes you should be putting your tools away.

Ok, I think VSTech explained the method to me before, but just to refresh:

I attach the gauges to the high&low ports on the system, then attach the yellow hose to which port on the tank?

I've got a large Styrofoam box that will fit the cylinder and still have plenty of room for the dry ice.
