82' 300 TD Thermostat Replacement Question
I am planning on replacing my the thermostat on my 82' 300 TD as my car seems to be running a little on the hot side. Do I need to drain the whole cooling system, or can I just disconnect everything from the thermostat and kind of let whatever drains out drain out?

Drain it, then move your pan to under the thermostat housing. No need to waste or pollute.

Running hot is not usually a symptom of a t-stat on the 123's. Usually a bad t-stat is stuck open and causes the engine to run cool. Thought I guess they could get stuck mostly closed and cause hot issues. Are you sure your auxillary water pump is working, or you don't have build up in the system somewhere?

how old is the coolant? how old is the water pump? how old is the radiator? i'd want to flush that coolant out good unless its new. and if after the t-stat replacement, if it still runs hot, i've seen impellers rusted away. i don't know if that can happen to a 617, but i've seen it on other brands.
