That would be consistent with the suction valve not closing. The valve and spring are behind a plug on the bottom of the lift pump, below the supply line connection.

The valve is operated by a very "light duty" spring. It doesn't take much to gum it up so it doesn't close. The 617 FSM mentions the importance of cleaning the pump valves.

which one is the 'suction' valve?

wouldn't both plastic valves have to be leaking?

Discharge valve is to the front, suction valve to the rear.

no joy on the crows foot, tried three different places.

I will order a new primer pump, since both mine are the old style. Tomorrow I will attempt to remove the pump ass'y and see what I can do. Are there any words of caution in reference to loosing parts when I take the pump off?

I think my 300d will be ok to get me around town. There is a whine from the rear diff at speeds over 50.. I will stay away from the highway.

I hope it gets a little warmer out

lift pump off. suction valve looks fine. I will get the rebuild kit and a new primer. I don't think I want to yank the lift pump off my SD.

Replaced the primer pump and bought the "rebuild" kit from fastlane.

Same thing!!!

I am tempted to call a salvage yard and tell them to come get it. I got rid of two cars in two days, I am on a roll. Right now I am charging the batt since I ran it down. If it doesn't start and idle normally... well I dunno, but I am REALLY sick of messing with it.

Still on the hunt for a w124 wagon as a daily driver. Found some.. either not nice enough or too expensive.

ok, now that I got that out of my system.

It's running fine off a container of kerosene. That is all I had laying around. I put a little oil in there for good measure.

So it seems the tank screen in clogged or something.

So it's on the bottom of the tank? I did not look all that hard. I have like 3/4 of fuel too. Might have to get my little 12v pump and pump it out. At 300k miles I am sure the tank is full of junk.. clean it out with that bio(?) stuff?

Thanks
