Quote from my Bosch book, there are 5 different types of governors listed:

1. Maximum speed governors - limit engine's maximum speed.

2. Maximum/minimum speed governors (automotive) - control idle speed in addition to maximum speed but not the intermediate range.

3. Variable speed governors (tractors) - control idle, maximum speed and all intermediate speeds.

4. Combination governors - combine elements of 1, 2 and 3.

5. Generator engine governors - control engine driven governors to comply with ISO 8528 or DIN 6280

I appreciate the efforts made so far, but I still need one major question answered: what trans was used, what trans can be used? Drive shafts can be made anywhere but it's the trans that matters, too.

Are you still looking for info on Perkins P4 engines? I think I just bought one and know where there may be another. I also have some info from the service manual. There are one or two vendors on ebay that have parts.
