722.3 valve body cleaning and K1 etc Spring upgrade

In a never ending effort to fix the erratic shifting on my SDL (already chased down vac leaks, rebuilt VCV and eliminated BFS and assorted leaking vac stuff) im thinking after reading several threads here and on other places on the web perhaps a superior shift kit may help (i have some flairing and other issues of over revving etc) my question is is there DIY anywhere on cleaning the valve body? my googlefu is failing me as i cant find a specific DIY or pdf of it anywhere. im thinking if i get the superior kit i might as well go over the entire valve body a indy mechanic whos trying to sell me a $2400 rebuilt trans said "cleaning the valve body may be a fix as it cud have clutch material etc clogging it"

I have read somewhere that you can buy an entire rebuilt Valve Body and use the old one as an exchange. And, the rebuilt Valve Body is supposed to have the updates.

Maybe someone can chime in and give some idea what exactly would be in the Valve Body that needs to be cleand out.

my understanding from the indy is that my clutches are worn and all the over revving/slipping wore them more and that particulate that is usually on the bottom of the pan *may* be in the valve body and can be causing the intermitant issues.

i should mention that this "goofy shifting" is experienced after its good and hot and been drive 30-45 mins

Some info here, but you need a manual...

I did this a few years ago. It's really not too difficult, once you get the valve body split and track down where all the balls go. Be sure to RTFM and turn the VB over before you split it (don't ask).

There is an amazing amount of crud in there, and I don't care what anybody says, there is no additive made that is going to get in all the nooks and crannies and clean all that silt out.

For the ATSG manual I did a google search. I used this search key: atsg manual 722 filetype:pdf

You may have good luck.

Once you have it split and all the little balls and springs are lying around, use carb or brake cleaner on everything and shoot copious amounts into the valve body cavities and cylinders.

Take pictures...here are some of mine on this old thread...

I prefer MAF cleaner, supposed to be plastic safe.

Update

Nice talking to you.
The black grit trapped in the oil pan and new filter tells me the clutch disc's are failing fast.

I will duplicate the suggested parts list here when done.
