Same driver, same car, same risks, ... I agree with Orv, if you don't keep an eye on your insurance rates, you're a sucker (I was) and will get fleeced.
Where did you find a policy with declared value? If it is a classic policy you are severely limited in your driving of the car, at least in my state.

For example with a classic car policy you may not drive to the store, school, movies, etc etc, you may only pleasure drive and go to car shows.

Mine allows the car to be driven 8months, it is not monitored but as I live in the rust-belt, it doesn't see daylight once the salt comes out anyway.

If/when I put classic plates on it (next year eligible) I'll look at the rules there. I was running collector plates on a BlueBird Wanderlodge (motorhome), made a lot of calls to find out if there was any reason not to, nobody could come up with one, and since I belonged to several associated clubs there was always a club event somewhere on the continent. Saved me almost $800/year in license plate fees (Michigan).

I wish I could put collector plates on my SDL. The normal one is freakin almost $300! Ones for my Mk2 Jettas were $60, and my TDI is only $120!

Michigan's system is screwed up. It is billed as a property tax, which by definition is based on the value of the property, not on what it cost new. Taxes there are levied in sneaky and uneven ways.

One of the main reasons I will never again have Michigan as my residence.

Now talk about Michigan's insurance and tort-law issues, ...
