Trans Cooler Hoses
My trans was slipping this morning. I stopped at Autozone for some fluid and noticed trans fluid leaking out toward the front of the car. One of the cooler hoses was dribbling. Luckily I found the parts in town but spent the rest of the morning fixing it in the cold parking lot. Not so easy to get to them. And the old ones didn't want to come loose.
Something worth checking next time you are under the car! |

I have that exact leak on my TD. I looked underneath and there is tranny fluid leaking from one of the cooler lines. I haven't had a chance to look into further. Actually when I changed the fluid and filter, I accidental put a "tad" too much tranny fluid (Mobil 1) in. SO it leaking a bit is actually helping me get rid of the excess. Of course I can't let it go on leaking. Any ideas on what these lines cost?

According to my Mercedes mechanic friend, Mercedes upgraded the cooler hoses to the wire wrapped ones in order to prevent a broken fan belt from cutting the hose...a thoughtful improvement.

I paid $18 ea at a local import parts house. Change them soon, I leaked 3-1/2 quarts of mobile1 ATF. You may find yourself stranded if it lets loose, mine went quick.
