How to use Manual AC

Seeing as my question keeps getting buried I need to ask it here.

How in the world do I use the manual AC in the 240D? Last owner showed me but I cannot remember for the life of me how to get it working.

Should be a temp wheel, on the top row of switches....

Turn the center fan switch to desired fan speed...

The two outer knobs control heater valves

When the compressor kicks in the car comes to a grinding halt.

I will tomorrow morning. It's dark out and raining.

other objective is to figure out why the wipers are slow. Could be the linkages needing a lube, to them binding, etc.

mine has the thumb wheel. Stewart thinks the blower motor might need new brushes. The blower worked last week.. heh

Your thumb wheel does the same thing as #8 in the picture above. It is for the AC. think 82 and 83 have the thumb wheel.

# 2 is the heat control for the driver and #3 is for the passenger.
#1 is the blower speed.
#4 is air flow the thr windshield and/or the floor.
#5 opens/closes air the the center vents.

really a simple system. but compared the the automatic climate control, with the 240 you have to think and make decisions.

The blower motor could be a fuse, or the motor is kaput. might need brushes. when we got our 240 the blower didn`t work. pulled the plug and applied direct 12V. nothing. replaced it with one from PNP. when I pulled the old blower, the squirl cage would not turn. there are several threads on replacing the brushes.

A replacement blower fron PNP is around $25.

I just went to the car and fiddled with it. Changed the fuse to a new copper fuse, pulled the panel to verify its plugged in.

I unplugged it and then plugged it back in. Then I put the fan speed to 3 and turned the other knobs to AC and slid the sliders to the right. I had the key in the ACC position and nothing. Then I got out and went to the drivers side to start it and it started blowing. I started it and then the fan stopped. Then 5 seconds later started and then stopped.

I turned the car off, turned the fan speed to off and then back to 3 and it ran for about a minute then turned off.

The fan speed knob is very hard to turn, that is probably not normal, correct?

I did feel the AC kick in since the engine did change RPM's.

Also, this is jumpered

just remembered something, the owner said something about the key in the ignition being just right
