Good point! I think in this case it's going to work out well. The seller decided to remove the glow plugs himself. One is already out(#4 cylinder), and cylinder number 2 is the one giving him trouble. Heating the engine allowed the #4 GP to come out, but it didn't work for the #2 GP. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one! The seller is very competant, and I don't doubt his ability to do the right thing. Unfortunately we can't all be Glow Plug "Gurus" instantly, and the school of hard knocks is enrolling soon near us all ![]() Josh .. |

WOW how things change over the years hear.... I the owner of this car in question have been a member on hear since 98 and have done a ton of work on MB and I would question allot of the comments on hear... Let me set the record straight that Josh found this site because I recommended to him to do his research.... In addition I do not take a breaker bar comment lightly.... I put things back the way they are and am insulted by people that have no idea slinging comments.... I posted this 1999 MB vehicle on Ebay for 6500 with 146,000 miles.... The car if you care to know has zero rust all work done up to date including suspension fuel lines IP o-rings and the list goes on..... Why I was doing the injection pump I thought I would replace the glow plugs for the next owner because as we all know this is a fault on the 606 because of the non seating of the glow plug..... I would love to know how someone could buy a 99TD with that mileage in very good condition with no issues for 3,000 for two stuck glow plugs..... The reason I took it off ebay is because I had around 20 calls for this car with overs from 5500 up.... Josh seems like a great guy and not every seller is scamming or trying to get over.... Know the weak points of the 210's Where is the comments on spring perches????? Wow where are the veterans... Oh I priced the car the way I did for worst case scenario....Popping the head and paying a machine shop 1000-2000 for work.... I guess there are so many 99's and 98's out there that you can pickup for peanuts..... Get a grip and lastly when you can replace an evaporator on an 1997 S320 then talk to me..... Oh thats right you have done that Mr. Pleasant....

Most guys would have put their tails between their legs and hid from the situation, and considered it a kiss of death to have glow plugs break off-especially two of them! Another testament to the carefulness of the work performed on this car in regard to the broken GP's is that the situation was not made worse by ill-advised extraction processes-the time was taken to fully understand how to do it correctly. There are too many horror stories out there with guys drilling too far etc and really ruining things royally. Highly commendable that you champed it out and won the battle of man vs. machine! Another really neat thing is that through this experience I have personally learned a few new tricks that may help to prevent the seizing of the GP's in the future-mainly using fine water mist post turbo injection to help remove/reduce carbon deposits. With luck in the future, and due to the hard work on this car, we may be able to post tips and tricks the will benefit the group as a whole. Nice work George, and have a great flight tommorrow. ..
