instrument cluster?

Naturally now that I am looking for it I can't find one so does anyone have a picture of the back of the instrument cluster? I want to jump out the light dimmer but I want to know what it looks like first.

That white thing.

If you simply solder a wire between the two pins on the back, it'll work.

Or as above, solder the two pins on the front.

OK, once I got the instrument cluster out it looked easier to clean up the dimmer than jump it. It is even easier than the window switches or seat switches. I did want to put in new bulbs as long as I had the cluster out but the numbers on the old bulbs did not match to anything at the auto parts store. I bought some 3 watt bulbs but was wondering what other people have used?

Use only the wattage that came with it. Anything stronger will melt the surrounding plastic.

That's the big question, what is the wattage of the original lamp in there? It looks like the old one was 3 watts and that's what the new one's are.

According to the description that is not the bulb for the instrument cluster but for the indicator lights.
OK I did some checking and it uses 3 watt lamps, at least that's what the old ones are. If anyone is doing this look for lamps that say W3W. I used Eiko 2821 lamps from O'Reilly's.

I did not realize how much the dirty dimmer contacts dimmed the lights until I cleaned it and replaced the bulbs. The instrument cluster now is almost as bright as any other car.

How did you clean the dimmer (rheostat)?

Thanks

There are not many parts to it so I disassembled it and cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser (this cleans off the carbon very well), very fine sand paper and contact cleaner. I did glue the end of the coil spring in place so it wouldn't pop out.

That's what I used to see what I was going to find when I removed the cluster but I was glad to see on my car the oil pressure gauge is electric so I did not have to remove an oil line.
