Nut size on auxiliary fan switch
84 300D
The original aux fan switch comes off with a 19MM socket. The new one takes a 22MM and its made by Uro. The Behr is the same size. (Or at least it is larger than 19mm.) The problem is that there is not enough space to tighten the new one because a bracket that holds the AC line is in the way. There is just enough space to get it a little tight, but not enough space to tighten it correctly. I guess I will have to loosen the AC bracket to install the aux fan switch. But before I did that, I thought I would ask.... Has anyone else run into this? I hate to loosen the AC bracket unless I have no choice.

For the aux fan switch "snug" should be good enough if getting more than that is a problem that requires disassembly.
The aux fan switch doesn't seal the r/d and it isn't structural. It just needs to conduct heat from the r/d to the switch. Tight enough not to vibrate loose should be all you need. Too tight or overtightening may break the narrow threaded section on the switch. There have been a few threads about broken switches but I can't recall any about loose switches. |
