two questions: '82 240D

hey. trying to troubleshoot problems starting. here is the easy question:

1) where the engine ground strap is on an '82 240D

my other question is about my gp situation. i have pencil plugs but they are wired with that squiggly copper wire. is that wrong? also, of the 4 gp's, I only have them wired with 3 insulators, and the copper wire touches itself on each connection.

2) what is the correct wire i should use, and way i should be connecting my pencil plugs?

I think ground strap goes from frame to bellhousing on right side. No, those wires are not correct, but they could work. No insulators should be used. Each plug needs 12 volts. A wire from the relay to one plug and then jumper wires to the other 3 is fine.

The main engine to frame ground strap on my 240 is driver side bellhousing to frame.

Make sure there is NO ground strap grounding the forward GP,

I use 10 gauge, multi strand insulated copper wire for jumpers between GPs.

the ground wire IS almost directly under the accelerator pedal under the car. like mentioned above, it's connected to one bellhousing bolt, and the body of the car.

for the GP wires, look at the link I posted in your other thread. great pictorial showing the wires and how to route them. basically, the black wire that comes from the firewall, should be directly connected to the closest GP, then a jumper of #10 wire to the next 4 plugs, and then NOTHING else on the # 1 plug. so the wires go from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and stop. I find it hard to believe you have insulators on the pencil plugs, as they are thick, and the threaded area of a pencil plug is rather short.
please take a picture of your glow plugs and wires, and let us make suggestions.
