man this winter was hard on this car. Ive just been over all the bodywork that was JUST done last fall, and ive got surface rust starting everywhere, about 8 places. POR time.

I had my doubts about how much prep to non visible under surfaces the painter did, and I have my answer. Beautiful job on the fenders, less so on patches underneath which were rattle canned only.

Fortunately, its early enough that wire wheeling and POR should knock the inevitable back on its heels for a few years to come.

It is never ending - especially if you use the damn thing in the damp and the wet.

This is exactly why my wagon and 240D are never getting driven in the snow ever again. Salt sucks.

Thats a bummer. Honestly it might be cheaper to just have a shop custom weld up new pipes to whatever is left in the front.

i have just the guy. gonna do same diameter pipe as stock and generic single muffler in the rear, maybe something that will deliver a decent note, but not too loud. my ears are still ringing this morning.

Nothing wrong with an automatic in these either. They usually just don't shift right.

In an amazing coincidence I just randomly saw the car while out working today, approx an hour and a half from where I live.
I can confirm that the new owner left the new rear springs alone, and severely cut the new front springs, giving the car an awful rake. It looks terrible and probably rides worse.

Unfortunately im afraid no enthusiast will save this car with that kind of modification, it is doomed to the lowering crowd

Part of me wants to buy it and "fix" it, but I have no room or time...

This thing is down to $1750. All it needs is some new front springs and the trim replaced and it's a great 240D with extensive maintenance/repair history right on this forum!

83 Mercedes-Benz 240d PRICE DROP
The thing is in my route territory so i quite randomly drove by where its parked a week or so ago. At least scrap prices are so low he wont send it to a yard after trying to get too much money for it for too long.

You or someone else might be able to lowball him at this point. If i werent trying to clear cars out of here id do the same and replace the front springs and resell it. Incredibly bad timing for me
