Let's make the drop all in one place. Kirk and I and others from MI will come down to I-80 with tow dolly's and drag them home. I'm for whatever makes the journey cheaper!

Thanks,

Don

Diesel Don

I was thinking about dropping the whole load at one place, say the palatial W123 clubhouse in Toledo or somewhere along I-80. One drop at a make shift car lot, or some enterprising persons back yard.

So the zip of origin would be 95125, destination Toledo OH.

Are there any driveaway trucks that need to return empty?

I guess the idea is to switch out a rusty body for a virtually new one, which you could drive to its new death. But you would be driving a new car. I never knew what it was like to actually unbolt a rear muffler when I lived in MI. I just assumed the nuts just twisted off with a vise grip, or snapped with a well placed hammer blow.

The image you paint of a MI muffler is haunting. I just go at them now with my saw-zaw. Just hack the thing off and start all over with a shiny new one.

I'm going to contact my brother and a few other truck drivers to see if they're dragging any empty loads back from CA. At least we could get 3 of them in an 18 wheeler (I think).

Hi Don

Now we are talking!
An empty trailer would be perfect for at least two cars. I guess the average trailer is 40 feet long? My owners manual lists the 300D as 190.9 inches long (a little over 15 feet).

Just need a tow to a loading dock and a fork lift to push it in. Chains to tie it down? Diaper underneath the cars?

48 feet

Generally Semi's are 48 feet, although the do run up to 53 feet, shipping 3 back should be no big deal.

From my Traffic Manager....Cost has gone up a bunch

Here's his information

********************************************

Spoke with Patty at Autolog ( 800) 367-7201 and this is what I found out .

Cars must be running, they do not winch them up. If they did,
they could probably only haul 5 cars per trailer. The cost to transport 10 Mercedes would be approximately $650 per car on a bulk shipping order.

Insurance will not be costly for older vehicles that are not Historic, because the value is based on replacement value.

She said if we need to move cars that do not work. We need to contact Horseless Carriage 973-742-2692.

**********************************************

Guess you need to move to plan B, Backhaul by diesel don's buddies.

Thumbs up

Keep working on this and keep me informed. I'm looking at a 83 300 SD that's been sideswiped (could use parts) . Thanks every body for your help.
