Another fire extinguisher thread

G'day all,

I've been wondering if any of you happen to know if option 682 - fire extinguisher was fitted to any W123 diesels; or alternatively if any diesel W123 owners have fitted the factory option later on?

(I'm expecting a mention from you Patrick!)

If so does anyone know the part number for the option?

I've been searching and searching for a link between option code and part number. There has to be a link somewhere - but where?

Russian EPC has let me down. Has adult EPC got this information?

I'm guessing the chances are that the dealer has sold out by now - but hey you never know; with the right part number you might be one of the last lucky ones...

Some guy on the B-en-z-wor-ld w124 forum was shipping them over from Poland for around $65 if I can remember correctly.

I PMed him about a year back but haven't heard a reply.

I have 2 halon ones (in both my 123's).
Others can comment on local rules but down here they cannot be shipped any place & once discharged they cannot be refilled.

Tristan,

Here in the US I cannot get the "correct" extinguisher, bucket and metal angle bracket for my W123. They are considered "blocked" - however, I can get the correct metal angle bracket for the W201 and W124. I have not tried getting the bucket and extinguisher for the W201 and W124 though.

So I've contacted Maciej, the guy who takes care of sending brand new 1.0Kg Gloria units from Poland (username, MaxMatt on BW), to send me a few. I've installed them on the W123 and W201 and gave one as a gift to my mechanic friend.

Dismounted:

I lucked out on the metal angle bracket when I picked up the item at the junk yard, from a '77 Euro 230 - the same car I got my 15" bundts from.

Those in Europe or rest of world (ROW) would have a better chance of getting the correct extinguisher, "bucket" and metal angle bracket.

See thread on new extinguishers:

Gloria fire extinguishers available - Page 17 - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

Unfortunately, I've been searching for an hour already and couldn't find the p/n for the extinguisher, bucket or angle bracket. I searched the Russian EPC using a 280E European model as an example (in case they're different per type).

I've searched ebay.de countless times over the past year for "Feuerlöscher mercedes" with little luck.

Right now there's a half a dozen for the w124 but I've only seen the w123 bracket once or twice, either waaaaaay overpriced or I didn't have the cash at the time.

MBeige, if you ever get in contact with him again let me know. I'd love at least two.

Sure, have you tried PMing, emailing or responding to his thread? He might have gotten a flood of emails through his extinguisher thread so just drop another line. He responds back, and gives you a heads up if he'll be away for a while. The extinguishers took around 30+ days due to freight (cargo ship) handling & shipping.

The W123 angle bracket - I've only seen twice here in the US, that was "up for grabs" - one was mine, when I got it at the yard as mentioned earlier, and another on eBay from fellow member MBZ300CD over at BW. I forwarded the link to a friend of mine who I think purchased the part.

The W124 angle bracket mounts fine with the W124 (obviously) and it also works for the W140. The W124 has a mirror image for drivers sitting on the right side of the vehicle. I haven't seen the same W123 angle bracket in mirror image, maybe it's identical on both sides.

The W124 and W201 angle brackets are available new at your dealer, around $20 a piece. The problem with this angle bracket and with the extinguishers from Poland is that the plastic mounting strap that comes with the extinguisher conflicts with a certain tab on the angle bracket (maybe only the W201 bracket). This tab has to be sawn off for this particular extinguisher to be installed properly. Otherwise this tab allows the actual factory bucket to slide in and mount properly if you find a factory extinguisher and bucket.

Thanks for the information guys.

The number found my sixto in post #2 doesn't come up with anything on mbspecialist...

...but the bracket for the W210 in post#162 in the BW thread linked to by Patrick does.

It costs just under 12 euros without tax.

The number is

2028680012

changing the first 3 numbers to 123 doesn't help but

1248680012 does exist - same price!

Please note whether these "angles" / fire extinguisher brackets are actually in stock is another matter.

Not necessarily W123 info though...
