Engine number

Hi,

I need to find my engine number to get the high mileage badge, but I cannot find it. My owners manual says there isa placard on the back firewall right int eh center, like behind the engine block/head cover, but I dont see it. It doesnt even look as if it was there and isnt anymore. The VIN is imprinted int eh space, but no other numbers. Is it possible to pull out the engine number from the VIN? Am I just being dumb and when they say engine number they mean 617.9 as the engine number? Any help from people who have submitted this paper before is most appreciated,
Thanks

JMH

I think they mean the whoel engine number on the block. It'll be something like 6179xx xx xxxxxx. I don't know where it is on an OM617. Probably on the side of the block below the exhaust manifold.
