I came across the discovery, that you can use the strut mounts from a 300SEL. No more dealing with these weird mounts. The 300SEL mounts use the same, easy to find and cheap rubber doughnuts that can be found on basically every 560 out there and should last longer since they are under compression/tension, and not shear. My full write up can be found here:

Kobayashi - Are you filling the area above that white sleeve and then once that hardens removing the white sleeve and then filling in the rest?

Preador - YES!! This is exactly what I wanted to know. Unlike BMW where I can easily cross reference part numbers across chassis I can never seem to figure out what works with the mercs. In this case it is definitely a different part number and design but as long as it fits and does well to isolate the vibrations we are in business.

Since I already have BOTH shocks and I found a stray repair kit for the mount for 1 side only - would you be willing to part with one or both of your kits? Assuming you go the route of Preador and go with the SEL style mounts. If so - I'm a buyer!

Also - Did you find the mounts on MBclassic from this page? https://classicparts.mbusa.com/v-1991-mercedes-benz-350sdl--base--3-4l-l6-diesel/engine--engine-mounting
I don't see them listed so perhaps they are out of stock again.

The PN I have for them is: A1262410113 for just the mount or A1262400017 for the entire kit. Oddly If you type in the 0017 number into mbclassic it says it doesn't fit the 350sdl yet the everythingbenze ETK says it does...

Post Engine Shocks

Hi Proctor ;

Now, it turns out that in 1982 Mercedes only put -one- engine shock absorber (?! WTH ?!) and I've not yet checked my '85 300TD's engine shocks in any case .

I was looking at some 1980 and 1981 240D's and they had a shock on each side, I have no idea why they dropped this .

I'd not want to use the solid mounting in any case unless forced to .

Are you saying that the solution of using the 300SE mounts are solid? Seems to me the upper section is still sandwiched between rubber on the top, so not quite solid.

Proctor, you say the donuts are used on 560 cars. Are they not the same donuts like are used on the bottom of the shock? Do you know the part number of the donut or kit?

No. The white sleeve was made to push down on the goo. Since the goo isn’t pourable I needed a piston to pack it down. That’s what the sleeve is for. The bottom plug is removed after the PU dries which is in a very long time. I oil the plastic with silicone spray before putting it all together.

Post Home Made Bushings

I guess it depends on what sort of plastic is used .

Preador mentioned using the gasser mounts/shocks here: https://www.benzworld.org/threads/300sdl-rebuild-sls-retrofit-project.3099536/post-18472782

Scroll down for photos - they are not the same design but apparently fit.

The correct P/N for either the mount only OR the kit with the little doughnuts, washers AND the mount I listed in my previous post.

I figured most of the 126's might be similar but then with different engine designs you would normally have totally different designs. It sounds like even with the different design the gasser style shock mounts and kit all fit according to Praeder.

I think I see the confusion now. I was asking if you wanted to get the gasser style mounts for your car seen in the attached photo on left. And then you send me your diesel one you found when digging around for parts

The Gasser version of the engine shocks actually looks softer than the diesels as it's just donuts up top with metal shield and donuts down low.
The Diesel variant has the hard mount with hard rubber molded in. Seems like the diesels needed a sturdier mount or something? Maybe it's just a later style design but I think It's diesel specific.

But if the diesel mount is near unobtanium, or obscenely priced then???

If the gasser one doesn’t crack it should work good. More repairable.

Is there a part number for the gas version? Or is it all just luck of getting a set at a junkyard or from someone with parts cars??
