Brought home another W115, a 1976 240D 4-Speed Pics!

Ever since i sold my old W115, 1976 300D, i really missed the character that the old W115's have. I had been on the look for a decent W115 with minimal rust when i found this vehicle, it was in Rockledge, Fl sitting in a older gentleman's garage, where it had sat for over a year.

Supposedly the starter motor had went south and it was going to cost him 500 dollars to repair so he parked it in the garage. Lucky me!

I packed up the 85 300D with loads of tools and spare starter that i had laying on the self and travled about 2.5 hours south of me to look at the W115.

I installed the starter, pulled the gorilla knob and let it glow and it fired right up. Bought it on the spot and drove it home without any trouble at all.

It some small rust issues nothing to major, and the floor pans are pretty decent. AC will work with a charge of freon.

Engine runs awesome, little to no smoke runs extremely smooth and quiet.

Here is the downside, the front end is worn out badly, so i have ordered everything to completely rebuild the front subframe. I just put the car up on stands to start he work today. Hopefully get the subframe out by the weekend and start disassembly.

I already replaced the stock 14" hubcaps with 15" Ronal Pentas, i really like the look of them on the W115.

Keep watch on this thread, i will continue to post pics as i progress through my mini resto of the car.

Nice W115! Don't see those often around here in the salt zone.

Those are awesome wheels!

Whats up with the "MB 280SL" plate on the front, original owner dreaming of speed and power?

I don't think 79mercy got the wheels with that car...

I had been watching that ad myself and was tempted. But already too many cars, too little time....

Glad it worked out. Looks like a sweet ride.

how did you find her? CL?

When you bought the parts for the front end rebuild, did it come as a kit or did you have to piecemeal it?

she's real purty.

Nice one - what's the designer scratch on the front all about? (It looks like some Polo Ralph Lauren hiccup with my poor eye sight)

Thanks guy for the comments!

Al, the 450SEL was going to be huge project for me at this time, the front floors were bad, the EFI system was not working properly at all, hours and hours of troubleshooting it and i still couldn't figure out why it ran so poorly. So i passed it along to guy here locally just for the cost that i had invested. He wants to install new floor pans and hopefully return it to it former glory. I had rather pass it along to someone else than have it sit around my place to remain un touched.

pawoSD- i had that plate laying around in the garage, and stuck it on there to fill the empty slot in the bumper for now until i get the proper bracket.

benhogan- i ordered all the parts seperatly, i dont think they make a kit for the W115 that is any good, i wanted all German parts. W115 front subframe rebuilds are not cheap compared to W123's or W126.

Stretch- looks like another car scrubbed up against it at one point. Im not worried im going to slowly repair all the rust properly and have it painted.

adler- yeah i swapped the steering wheels to the pre-1973 style wheel that i had laying around. It goes much better with the interior of the 115 in my opinion.

Wow - I'm glad to read that that can be done - a few months back I was looking on the Russian EPC to see if this was possible...

...as the part numbers for the steering columns are different for each steering wheel type I reached the conclusion (incorrectly) that it might not be a simple swap.

The older style steering wheel is in my opinion one of the nicest things about the W114 - good choice!

Yeah it can be done on the W115 cars, now the W116 and W123 and so on have a larger sized steering column shaft, so it wont interchange.
